Biography:

Mariz Cassar is the daughter of artists Lewis Wirth and Helen nee Cavarra. She was influenced by her parents' art from a very young age and obtained A levels in Art and Pottery. Attended the Accademia di Belle Arti, Perugia and was tutored under ceramist Gabriel Caruana. She presently attends the Govt. School of Art for Sculpture.

She ventured to start a ceramic studio in St Julian's and offers private lessons. Her interest is in the Majolica method of glazing. Also obtaining vivid colours by triple glazing, combining oxides and prepared glazes, preferably in acqua-marine, yellows and reds. The variety of abstract works span from architectural pyramids to coral. Glazes also include natural colours taken from the beauty of nature that surrounds us.

Method of work is sculptural and stylised towards obtaining movement. Her sculptural figures cast in bronze have simultaneously solidity and  movement.
