Mario Sammut was born in Malta in 1955 and from an early age attended art lessons by Antoine Camilleri and Esprit Barthet.

Later he attended classes in ceramics under the guidance of ceramist Gabriel Caruana. His preferred medium is highfired ceramics, over 1260c, depicting a syylised human form.

Over the years he exhibited his ceramics in various collective exhibitions and has put up three solo ceramics exhibitions. He has exhibited his ceramic works in Cyprus, Frankfurt, Sicily and Denmark. He also co-organised the Malta-Cyprus Ceramics Exhibitions, which have been ongoing since 2005 alternating its venue between Malta and Cyprus.

In 2010 his works were selected for the Bornholm European Ceramics Exhibition in Denmark. In 2012, he modelled a 2.5metre bronze sculpture ‘Embracing Dancers’ which has been placed at Xewkija. His ceramic works and aluminium and bronze sculptures can be found in private collections in Malta and abroad and in the collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts.
