Biography

Born in 1944, Alex Cachia had his primary education at St. Joseph High School then in Valletta.

In  1955  he began studying art at the Lyceum secondary school under Esprit Barthet (1919-1999) and up to 1973 at Mcast.

He continued tuition under Antoine Camilleri (1922-2005) and also attended life sessions at Anton Calleja  (b.1955).

Being pressed to join at family business (jewellers) Cachia unfortunately had to slow down his focus on art. Since retiring from work he took part in several exhibitions.

His favourite mediums are acrylic ,oils ,pencil, ink and ballpoint. He also enjoys clay modelling.

Having spent such a long time under Esprit Barthet his forte are naturally in portraits and caricatures. His subjects vary from marine , still life and anything interesting that catches his fancy.

He also gets help from his wife who happens to be a good critic with a sharp eye and also dapples in painting herself.
