Navarro’s preferred media is Oil colour, however he also ventures in the spolvero technique and silver-point drawings.  His art focuses on people and the capturing of deep emotions.

Biography:

 

Franco Navarro was born in 1978, in Floriana, Malta. Navarro received his first artistic tuition in Art at the Society of Art, Manufacture and Commerce, Palazzo de La Salle in Valletta during the early 1990s.  Later he attended the Government School of Art in Valletta where he studied Fine Arts and Art Appreciation.

 

In 2004 Navarro achieved a B.A. Hons in History of Art from the University of Malta and subsequently a Masters Degree in History of Art where he specialised in Hospitaller Armour Decorations, 2010.

 

Navarro’s first solo exhibition was held at the Castille Wine Vaults in Valletta, December 2004. The exhibition was entitled ‘An Exhibition of Paintings by Franco Navarro, a Study for the Future’. The works involved a variety of techniques and mixed media. 

Held in October, 2007, his second solo exhibition was called ‘Etcetera perche la Minesstra si Fredda’. The latter was organized at the Head Office of Heritage Malta, in Valletta and included several oil paintings all executed through the spolvero technique. 

His third solo exhibition was Fafnir. Fafnir was organized at the Auberge d’Italie in Valletta in 2011.

 

Franco Navarro is today an art tutor at the Government School of Art in Valletta and delivers occasional lectures on Armour Decorations and artistic techniques at the University of Malta.
