MICHELLE MORRISSEY

 

Owner/Curator, Michelle Morrissey returned to live in Malta in 2012 having spent ten years living in the United Kingdom. During that time she worked for arts organisation Turner contemporary as a part of the Opening Team. Turner contemporary is a 20 million pounds, brand new contemporary art gallery in Margate, Kent. This organisation provided a full program of arts events and exhibition during the seven years prior to its opening. Many notarial artists exhibited within alternative spaces, in Margate during that period such as: 

Jeremy Dellar, Mike Nelson, Tracey Emin and Antony Gormley.

 

Morrissey has a First class honours degree in Visual Arts & Communications and a Masters in Design.  Studio 104, Fine Art Space is Morrissey’s ‘vocation’ and her method of promoting Contemporary Art. She feels that Valletta is a majestic capital city and that showcasing contemporary art within the city is an absolute must for the regeneration process. Morrissey is keen to be part of the journey towards Valletta, European Capital City of Culture in 2018.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MELANIE FARRUGIA

CO-CURATOR WINTER SALON 2014

 

Melanie Farrugia was born in Malta on 22nd January 1981. She graduated in History of Art (Hons) from the University of Malta and her area of research focused on 18th century paintings.  She holds a Masters degree in Museum and Heritage Management from Northumbria University (Newcastle), where her research focused on marketing ideas for church museums scattered in Malta and Gozo.

She is involved in various organizations as a volunteer. Melanie is a volunteer museum host at Palazzo Falson in Mdina and also performed digitization of archives as a volunteer at the Notary archives, Valletta.  She works with www.maltain360.com as consultant for heritage and cultural sites including research and write-up of information regarding the respective sites featured on their website.  In 2014 she joined the Mdina Biennale 2015 team as Events Manager and is also the producer of the radio program: ‘Culture Vulture: Art is Served’, which is the official radio program for the Mdina Biennale 2015.


Currently she is doing freelance curatorial projects, including the group exhibition, ‘SELFIE’, organized by Studio 104, Fine Art Space, Valletta and this exhibition Winter Salon 2014 at same premises.

 

Her major interests are in the arts sector. Her frequent travelling trips are focused on visiting major exhibitions and biennale around the world.  Her hobbies include reading, painting, sailing, travelling, history & art.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NATHALIE DEBONO

GALLERY ASSISSTANT INTERNSHIP

 

Nathalie Debono is a twenty year old, fresh graduate from B.A. (Hons) Fine Arts. Her artistic work dwell with the humanity, empathy and mental disorders. Nathalie works in a variety of media depending on the subject and concept. Apart from being intrigued by Fine Art, her interests broaden up to psychology, philosophy, literature, and science. Taking aside the art practice as a hobby, she also loves to travel, read, researching and doing sports.

MARION CHESNEL

Fine Art English Language Internship

 

Marion Chesnel was born in Normandy (France) on 10th March 1988. She graduated in History of Art from the University of Rennes and her area of research focused on 21th century art. She holds a Masters degree in Critics and History of Arts and Experiences and Exhibition art where her research focused on the Social and cultural identity in video art of the 21st century with artists like Pierre Huyghe, Philippe Parreno, Douglas Gordon and Steve McQueen.

 

She is involved in various organizations as a volunteer or for internship. Marion was a volunteer assistant curator at Les Bains-Douches fine art space in Alençon (France) and also at  Standards-Exposition fine art space in Rennes (France) including curatorial projects like research, setting-up of a project and exhibition, dismantling exhibition, mediation, communication.

 

In Malta she is a volunteer at Studio 104, Fine Art Space, Valletta where she is working on the exhibition Winter Salon 2014.
