THE SELFIE
ALL LIKE ONE WHO IS UNCLEAN
2013
Video Installation
(54 minutes Loop)
Selfie: the image of the Self. Many a time, the selfie focuses on the surface, on the aesthetics, that which can be seen. ‘All like one who is unclean’ tries to dig deeper, and seeks to make hidden emotions and experiences tangible, through facial expressions and
imprints left on the facial surface. The video piece uses the metaphor of staining and cleaning to explore the contradictions of life, the feelings of guilt and fear, the struggle between instincts and morality, animalistic drives and restrictions that act within the human mind. Here, the execution and selection of mediums is not prioritized but is totally subordinate to the concept.
