Mallia began his artistic career as a painter of landscapes in watercolours, a medium with which he has continuously experimented and through experience perfected.

The use of mixed media on textured rice-paper can be considered his trademark.

Tonio has unfailingly continued to evolve in the representational field, consumed by a painfully truthful understanding of human nature while propelled by a deep empathy and yearning for the divine, which can only be expressed through his art.

It is the artist's belief that his works should speak for themselves and therefore little need be said on the displayed work.
This parody on Caravaggio's famous work is the artist's interpretation into the dark side of self-indulgent imagery in the Age of the Web, an extension of Narcissism that so easily draws attention seekers into the pitfalls of psychological ruin and destruction.
