Graduate of Central St Martins, UK

 

Victor works in ceramics as well as more conventional material.  His sculpture and paintings bear a relation to each other, both being abstract isolated forms, rich in texture and tactile.

Arthur Aquilina

 

Born: 23 January 1978

Nationality: Maltese

 

Self-Taught Artist

 

Aquilina always sought for inspiration from various old masters and contemporary artists to enhance and improve his own original style.  His preferred medium is acrylics and his subject focuses on the human form. 

Aquilina is proud to present his work for the first time, in this group exhibition entitled ‘SELFIE’.

Daniela Attard

 

Born: 22 August 1989

Daniela’s preferred media is Pencil (traditional) and Photoshop (Digital).  Her subject matter focuses on character design and fantasy.

Ray Axiaq

 

Born: 26 September 1960

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Education:

Degree in Fine Art - MCAST Malta 2014

 

Axaiq has an 'affinity' with the local landscape and interprets mundane scenes into bold vibrant, colourist blocks that are filled with the emotion and the speed of the work.

I was delighted to be invited and felt that the area of portraiture is very current and one that I enjoy equally as my landscapes. I waited until the deadline to paint but was emotional and physical working on this new work since the invitation!!

Umberto Buttigieg

 

Born: 12 April 1989

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Education:

BA Art History at the University of Malta

Ma Fine Art at the University of Brighton

 

Umberto is a multimedia artist specializing in video art, performance, manipulation and pastiche.  His preferred subject matter is Purity and Impurity, repetition, obsession, compulsion, transformation and spiritual enlightenment.

Debbie Caruana Dingli

 

Born: 3 March 1962

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Arts Education:

School of Arts

 

 

Debbie has been painting steadily for 30yrs and has carved a niche for herself with watercolour portraits.

Her favourite mediums are watercolour and oils, turning to cartoon paintings when she feels she needs to deliver a strong message.

She has held 6 solo exhibitions and taken part in numerous collective ones, both in Malta and abroad. Next year Bank of Valletta will be holding a retrospective of her work.

Nationality: Maltese

Chetcuti’s preferred media is sculpture and his favourite subject matter is the nude.

Alex Dalli

 

Born: 28 April 1958

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Education:

School of Art, Malta under the tutorship of Harry Alden and Esprit Barthet.

Art History appreciation under Fr.Marius Zerafa.

 

 

Alex’s work is minimalistic and leans towards Abstraction. He uses a variety of media.

His works are exhibited both locally and abroad.

Patrick Dalli

 

Born: 1955

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Arts Education:

Under tutorship of Anton Calleja

 

Dalli started as a self-taught artist and in 1995, moved on to formal training under the tutorship of Anton Calleja, focusing his interest on the human figure and in later years he started concentrating on the nude. 

Antoine Farrugia

 

Born: 22 July 1969

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Arts Education: 

Diploma, School of Arts, Valletta

 

Farrugia started as a self-taught artist who later on started training under the tutorship of Anton Grech.  His preferred media is sculpture and the subject that interests him most is the human abstract form.  He is mainly influenced by the love of the medium and the symbolic energy he derives from it to vent his deepest feelings.

Rune Bo Jakobsen

 

Born: 1975

Nationality: Danish

 

Formal Arts Education:

Masters in Architecture at the Aarhus School of Architecture, Denmark 1994-2000

 

In his paintings he expresses the colours hidden within the shadows, and portrays the emotions embedded within a space - and the glow within an individual.  Concurrently he experiments with concrete sculptures using flexible formwork creating ‘expanding’ volumes as sensory experiences.

Tonio Mallia

 

Born: 7 October 1955

Nationality: Maltese

 

Self-Taught Artist

 

Mallia began his artistic career as a painter of landscapes in watercolours, a medium with which he has continuously experimented and through experience perfected.

The use of mixed media on textured rice-paper can be considered his trademark.

Tonio has unfailingly continued to evolve in the representational field, consumed by a painfully truthful understanding of human nature while propelled by a deep empathy and yearning for the divine, which can only be expressed through his art.

Franco Navarro

 

Born: 24 April 1978

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Arts Education:

BA History of Art at University of Malta

MA History of Art at University of Malta

 

Navarro’s preferred media is Oil colour, however he also ventures in the spolvero technique and silver-point drawings.  His art focuses on people and the capturing of deep emotions.

Reuben Pace

 

Born: 13 November 1974

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Arts Education:

M.A. University of Bangor

PhD University of Bangor

 

Pace is a contemporary music composer and producer working in both the acoustic and the electronic medium. His music has been performed in UK including by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, in Russia, Italy, Germany and Czech Republic.  He is currently working on the multi-media song cycle ‘Il-Kantilena’ – the first musical work ever which utilises medieval Maltese and the first time the oldest surviving text in Maltese ‘il-Kantilena’ by Pietro Kaxaro is being set to music.

Christopher Saliba

 

Born: 27 August 1975

Nationality: Maltese

 

Formal Arts Education:

Degree in Art Education at University of Malta

Post-Graduate Degree in Fine Arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Pietro Vannucci, Perugia, Italy.

 

Though painting still remains his preferred medium his versatile approach to art allows him to reveal in different ways the complex nature of the human being as well as the primordial link between mankind and the natural environment.

Blanche Schembri

Self-Taught Artist

 

Blanche is familiar with Portraiture, and figurative art, as this area is one that she pursues on regular basis.

She has exhibited locally.

 

Her work explores mark making, form and colour.

Darren Tanti

 

Born: 21 November 1987

Nationality: Maltese

Darren is renowned for his technically accomplished and thematically loaded paintings. Tanti’s preferred media are oils and aquarelles.  The subject he focuses on are hyper-reality, contemporary society and religion

James Vella Clark

 

Born: 1975

Nationality: Maltese

 

Self-Taught Artist

 

Vella Clark is one of Malta’s main exponents of Expressionism.  He  pursues abstract landscapes as his preferred subject matter.  The omni-present church dome and its steeple that dominate Vella Clark’s townscapes are representative of the ongoing tension between female and male, as well as society’s dominating character on the individual’s personal life story.
